National Survey Results
“Do you approve or disapprove of the job Barack Obama is doing as President of the United States?”
- As has been the trend, the President’s approval rating is still upside-down as 45% of voters approve of the job he is doing as President, while the majority, 53%, disapprove Only 2% didn’t know.
“If the election for U.S. Congress in your district were held today, would you be more likely to vote for the Republican candidate or the Democratic candidate?”
- Republicans continue to lead on the generic ballot for U.S. Congress as the plurality, 43%, said they would vote for a Republican for Congress. A Democratic candidate would trail by 3 points at 40% and less than 1 in 5 voters, 17%, said they were undecided.
“Would you say you most favor a smaller government with fewer services, or a larger government with many services?”
- A majority of voters, 50%, say they would most favor a smaller government with fewer services, as opposed to less than 1 in 3 voters, 32%, who would prefer a larger government with many services. Less than 1 in 5 voters, 17%, didn’t know.
“Generally speaking, would you say things in the United States are going in the right direction, or have they gotten off on the wrong track?”
- More than 3 out of 5 voters, 62%, believe the country is headed off on the wrong track, while only 3 out of 10 voters, 29%, believe the country is headed in the right direction. Less than 1 in 10 voters, 9% didn’t know.
“Do you approve or disapprove of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as ‘Obamacare’?”
- The majority of voters, 51%, continue to disapprove of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare” while 44% approve and 5% don’t know.
CONCLUSIONS:
The findings of this national survey are in line with election results and turnout rates from this past November’s general election for Congress. Americans continue to see the nation headed in the wrong direction and continue in their disapproval of the President’s job performance and keynote legislation, “Obamacare.”

Methodology: This national survey of 1,003 likely 2016 general election voters was conducted from January 10th to 14th, 2014. All interviews were conducted online; survey invitations were distributed randomly within predetermined geographic units. These units were structured to correlate with actual voter turnout in a nationwide general election. This poll of 1,003 likely general election voters has an accuracy of +/- 3.1% at a 95% confidence interval.
