Release Statement on National Poll Revealing

Strong Opposition to Funding PRC/CCP Battery Manufacturers

Lansing, MI – In recent weeks, a number of state and local polls have been conducted in Michigan and Illinois surveying registered voters on the taxpayer funding of the proposed Ford/CATL and Gotion plants proposed respectively in Michigan and Illinois.

In late October, the first national poll of registered voters presented a question on taxpayer funding for PRC/CCP battery manufacturing plants, and was conducted by McLaughlin & Associates.

Former United States Ambassadors Peter Hoekstra and Joseph Cella promoted the polling data and the following statement:

The public is ahead of government and business elites on this.  There seems to be fertile high ground for the defense of communities against Communist China.

A majority of voters say states like Michigan should not invest taxpayer dollars to help transition to EVs because working with countries like China is not worth jeopardizing national security and other American auto manufacturing jobs, 56% – 27%, who say these states should invest to help transition to reduce climate change.

Some states know better than to bring in companies deeply tied to the Chinese Communist Party.  Unlike those states, why do the governors of Michigan and Illinois spend their taxpayers money bringing in companies deeply tied to the Chinese Communist Party into their states?  Don’t they understand the clear and present danger this totalitarian regime presents?  It’s a bi-partisan issue.”
